Formula 1 racer Liam Lawson revealed he narrowly avoided a potentially deadly accident during Sunday's Mexico City Grand Prix when a pair of track officials crossed the track directly in front of him

The alarming incident happened on the third rotation when safety workers were spotted on the circuit as Lawson was rejoining the race following an premature pit stop to swap his broken nose section

Racer's Instant Response

Immediately after, Racing Bulls driver Lawson communicated to his race engineer saying: "Is this for real? Could you believe what happened? I nearly... ended their lives"

"I honestly couldn't believe what I was witnessing"

"I rejoined with a new set of hards, and then I approached Turn One and suddenly there were two dudes running across the track"

"I nearly hit one of them, truthfully, it was so dangerous"

Security Issues Highlighted

"Clearly there's been a failure in communication somehow but I've never encountered that before, and I haven't really seen that in the past. It's completely unacceptable"

"We fail to grasp how on a ongoing race track safety personnel can be allowed to just dash across the track in such a way. I don't understand the reason, I'm confident we'll get some sort of explanation, but this must never be repeated"

Governing Body Reviewing

F1's overseeing organization, the International Automobile Federation (FIA), is currently investigating the situation

"Subsequent to a first corner event, track officials was informed that fragments were located on the track at the turning point of that curve" declared the governing body

"On lap three, track officials were alerted and made ready to enter the track and clear the fragments once the entire field had cleared the area"

"The moment it was realized that Lawson had made a pit stop, the directives to deploy marshals were rescinded and a caution signal was displayed in that zone"

"The examination is ongoing what transpired after that point"
